Posting to Mastodon
How to connect a Mastodon instance, publish posts, see analytics, and respond to mentions from the inbox.
Overview
Mastodon is Aidelly's 11th supported platform. Because Mastodon is federated, you connect a specific instance (e.g. mastodon.social, fosstodon.org, or your own server) and Aidelly stores the account credentials per workspace.
Publishing, analytics, and inbox replies all work the same as the other platforms — your posts go out through your connected account on the instance you chose, and metrics roll up into the unified analytics view.
What this page is for
- Connecting a Mastodon account on any instance
- Publishing posts, threads, and media to Mastodon
- Reading analytics for your Mastodon account
- Replying to mentions and follow-ups from the Aidelly inbox
Before you start
- Know which Mastodon instance hosts your account
- Have an account on that instance with permission to post via API
- Decide whether the account is workspace-shared or personal (Aidelly social connections are workspace-scoped)
Step-by-step tasks
Connect a Mastodon account
- Open Workspace Settings → Social Connections.
- Click Connect a platform and pick Mastodon.
- Enter your instance URL (e.g.
mastodon.social). - Authorize Aidelly in the OAuth dialog that opens on that instance.
- Confirm the account appears in your connections list.
Publish a post to Mastodon
- Open Create Post (or use the calendar).
- Toggle Mastodon in the destinations row.
- Write your post — Mastodon's character limit applies per instance (default 500).
- Add media if you want it; Mastodon supports images, GIFs, and short video.
- Schedule or publish now.
Read Mastodon analytics
- Open Analytics.
- Filter by the Mastodon account.
- Review impressions, boosts, favourites, replies, and follower deltas.
Reply to Mastodon mentions
- Open Inbox.
- Filter by Mastodon.
- Click a mention or reply to draft a response in-app.
- Send directly or queue for approval if your workspace requires it.
Tips and gotchas
- Each Mastodon instance enforces its own character limit. Aidelly reads the instance's API and surfaces the actual limit in the editor.
- Mastodon posts that contain a link do not carry the X-style per-post API fee; Mastodon publishing is free for Aidelly.
- Replies on Mastodon are public unless the original post is unlisted. Treat inbox responses as public-facing.
- Connecting the same Mastodon account in two workspaces still counts as two connections (one per workspace) — Mastodon connections are workspace-scoped.
